As a
Broadband Technician I, you will perform basic installations, disconnects and service changes for residential and business customers. These services include, but are not limited to, video service, HSD Services, and home phone service and installation. This role performs basic troubleshooting from the tap to the customer's electronic devices (TV, DVD, Modem etc.). This position will assist with installing, splicing, repairing and maintaining aerial, buried, and/or underground fiber optic and copper cable.

This position can be hired at either a Broadband Technician I (7) , Broadband Technician II (8) or Broadband Technician III (9) level depending on the skills and qualifications of the candidate. The pay range listed for this position represents the low and high end of the base compensation range. - Perform connects (new connects and reconnects), disconnects (requested and non-pays), upgrades, downgrades, and relocates; install additional outlets and install or remove equipment (i.e. converters).
- Perform basic installation of all necessary cable wiring (interior and exterior) and hardware from the tap to the customer's equipment for reception of cable and other company services that are offered for single and multi-family.
- This may include burial of underground Broadband facilities utilizing different methods of placement, including excavation or hand digging for the placement of drop facilities to customer premise, streets and right of way and placement of conduit to customer premise, in streets and the right of ways as well as pulling of hardline into conduits after placement of conduits. Position may also be responsible for placement of conduit structure in new subdivision joint trench construction projects
- Perform all work as necessary to conform to quality control guidelines (includes compliance with requirements outlined in applicable regulations such as: OSHA, FCC, NEC and NESC)
- Perform connects (new connects and reconnects), disconnects (requested and non-pays), upgrades, downgrades, relocates, install additional outlets, and install or remove equipment (i.e. converters)
- Assure proper signal levels and picture quality on all television sets, and clean the premises of all debris and material after installation is complete
- Monitor and record system, drop, and in-house leakage; properly record all required information on work orders, surveys, referrals, etc
- Promote cable, internet, and other company services; educate customer on proper use of the service, including how to add additional services, channel lineups, proper equipment usage, and other services that are available.
- Clean, maintain, stock, and secure assigned vehicle and equipment.
- Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.
Required Qualifications - Must have and maintain a valid driver's license
- Must follow the TDS attendance guidelines in order to meet TDS's business needs including but not limited to our obligations to our customers and to our customers' needs.
Other Qualifications - Upon hire, must successfully complete customer-specific requirements, which may include a background check administered by the customer.
- Requires being available for on-call/standby responsibilities and may require occasional travel. Must be willing to work overtime as needed.
- Upon hire, must successfully pass all components of the Safety Course curriculum.
- Ability to maintain DOT (Department of Transportation) requirements in relation to operating vehicles with a combined GVRW (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) of >10,000 lbs.
- Reliable and responsible, with a strong work ethic dedicated to a team.
- Practical knowledge/experience with computer applications.
- Familiarity with company products and services.
- Proven organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
- Demonstrated customer service and sales skills, as well as effective communications skills (verbal and written) for interaction with internal and external customers.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.

- Successful completion of the SCTE Broadband Premise Install test within the first 3 months of employment.

Physical Demands and Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to sit, stand, write and operate a computer keyboard, standard office equipment and telephone. The associate regularly communicates with customers. The associate is frequently required to move about and reach for items. Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. May be required to balance or climb. Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
This position may require working outdoors, in mechanical/ equipment rooms, and possible extreme weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and heavy equipment. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
